De-icing/Anti-icing audit

De-icing/Anti-icing is a specialistic subject which usually is shortened to de-icing. The execution of a de-icing audit demands a thorough knowledge of legislation, fluids, aerodynamics and winter conditions.

The basis for de-icing audits is the 26th edition of the AEA Recommendations for De-Icing / Anti-Icing Aeroplanes on the Ground. Annually the Association of European Airlines (AEA) issues these AEA recommendations , in which the latest insights have been processed. De-icing/Anti-icing audits are normally performed in the months of November up to and including March.

Specifications for fluids, vehicles and facilities are laid down by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Two types of de-icing audits can be distinguished; the audit on the performance of the treatment and the audit on the post de-icing inspection. These audits can be conducted separately or combined, depending on the tasks which the company concerned carries out.

A de-icing audit consists roughly of two parts. The theoretical part pays attention to procedures, training and communication with the crew. The practical part includes inspection of vehicles and facilities and taking fluid samples.

Fluid sampling is performed according the AEA Recommendations. All samples from vehicles and storage tanks are examined on the spot for contamination, concentration and pH value.

AviationAudits.nl also offers training for de-icing / anti-icing auditors. Please contact us for more information.

AviationAudits.nl makes use of a De-icing/Anti-icing audit checklist, which is based on the model described in AEA Recommendations 6.1.4
